If you love sparklies you’ll love today’s blog hop hosted by Sarah at Saturday Sequins. Sarah has gathered together thirty eight blogger friends to show off their handmade treasures. The only requirement was to include sequins. Go ahead! Grab a cuppa and treat your inner dragon to a virtual treasure tour!
My entry: Stillness
Sequins between glass
True to my usual nature I jumped right into working with mediums I had not yet tried. Stillness was an experiment; my first experience with both sequins and glass paint. Using two panes of glass, I painted on both inner surfaces. The sequins are glued to the back pane. Since the sequins were not completely flat the panes could not be glued together so I used a type of caulking.
Okay, so up close it doesn’t look like much; it looks much better from a distance, especially in dim light when the sequins shimmer 🙂
You might be wondering why I would post an experimental piece as part of a blog hop where all the other bloggers will be showing beautiful jewelry and other items of perfection. The answer is, to encourage others to jump right in and try something. Too many people hold themselves back from creative play. Don’t worry if it isn’t perfect or if you don’t know “how” to do something. The point is to play, to explore, and to interact with other creative people.
Below is the listing of other Sequintastic participants; please enjoy your tour. Oh, and be sure to visit Sarah at Saturday Sequins. I heard she will be hosting another blog hop soon; perhaps you will join in the fun!

I love your experiment with glass paint and sequins. The sequins make the water shimmer in the moon light. Beautiful!

I really, really like your philosophy of just jumping in and doing it! What a fabulous way to live. Your picture is really neat. I reminds me of Jimmy Buffett. Since this is my first visit here, I’m not sure if you’re a fan or not but the combination of the water and the tire swing just leave me with that impression. Wonderful work and even better attitude!

Hi Crafty,
LOL–I guess it does have that feel to it!
Thanks for coming by 🙂

Creative use of sequins — a very interesting experiment and it looks beautiful! Love the shimmering water! Seeing how you painted on both sheets of glass and they’re slightly spaced, there must be a depth and dimensional effect that’s hard to capture in a photo.
Blog hops can be so inspirational, make the creativity flow and spark “what if…” ideas. Seeing an experimental piece is just as interesting and inspiring as seeing perfect, pretty creations.

Hi Maneki,
Yes, there is a really interesting 3-D effect with this picture. The panes are about 1/8 of an inch apart and I painted different parts of the scene on each pane. The ground, for instance, has a different line or plane on each which gives offers a bit of depth and the illusion of mounds.
For those who are interested…if I were to do this again I would find a grease pencil or other way to mark the panes for any images I want lined up exactly. For example, the trunk is off on the tree so instead of looking like a 3-D tree it looks more like two trees close together. Additionally, I would use sequins which do not have the stringing hole–seed beads might be fun too.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I love how your experiment turned out! It’s beautiful and gives some nice diversity to the blog hop. Nice work. 🙂
I absolutely agree with your philosophy about creative play. That’s where the real gold is, so to speak — even projects that appear to be mistakes can help us do our most wonderful and original work. It’s happened to me more times than I can count.
Thank you for participating and for your awesome insights! The more blog posts I read, the more I really want to do the April challenge, and I hope you join us.

Experimenting is the way to greatness, right? I wish I’d had more time to be daring and creative like you!

Hi Lori,
I’m planning a new website soon that will offer all sorts of new ways for creatives to experiment together. I hope you will join us!

I love the shimmer the sequins give. I find experiments make the most interesting blog posts. Thanks for sharing.

Toward the end of the month I like to check out a few different blogs then is different on my coffee pal list.
I’m taking part in Samhain Sirens…
I haven’t done any blog hopping for a long time. But this meme does sound interesting. I took sometime off from my ceramic and now is getting back into the swing of it.
Sequins are used on some bigger nativity sets.
Hope you have the time to stop on over at my blog…coffee is on.

Cool looking. And I love that you were willing to follow your vision and then show it off.
